Generations of proud Thomasians in Brunei Darussalam were unified to witness the Induction Ceremonies and First Year Anniversary of the University of Santo Tomas Alumni Association (USTAA) at the Mezzanine Cafe on October 21, 2017.
Progresif sponsored the momentous event in the hope of rekindling the Thomasian spirit in the Land of Unexpected Treasures.
Rhenee Bobiles, the outgoing president, kicked off the program with opening remarks subsequently introduced the guest of honor, His Excellency Mr. Meynardo LB. Montealegre, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of the Philippines to Brunei Darussalam.
The occasion was also graced with the presence of Asst. Prof. Maria Cherry G. Tanodra, MAN, RN, Director of UST Office of Alumni Relations.
Both invited guests shared words of inspiration, inducted the new officers, and expressed their heartfelt congratulations to USTAA. Moreover, they inspired all alumni to keep creating milestones for the Filipino nation and Thomasian community.
Bridging the past and future plans transpired at a turnover ceremony of the USTAA seal to the new officers. Together with this symbolical transition was the induction of new members and pinning rites for officers and members. Under new leadership, President Carol Abrigo-Abacan delivered her acceptance speech.
It was followed by sumptuous buffet dinner with live performance from USTAA Musicians while other Thomasians were mingling with the guests from the Philippine Embassy, Filipino Association, and Tinkerbell Learning School.
The celebration continued by awarding medals to Jubilarians and highlighting the alumni achievements in the annual report of Rhenee Bobiles. He also identified some areas of improvement to keep the association growing in service to UST as well as other communities.
As a proactive response, Carol Abrigo-Abacan presented the USTAA calendar of activities that supports the new directions of the UST Office of Alumni Relations.
