TOMASINOS JOIN "PISTANG PINOY 2021"
To commemorate the 123rd Philippine Independence Day, The Philippine Embassy in Brunei Darussalam initiated a full day fiesta-like celebration at the embassy grounds in Jalan Kebangsaan on 13 June 2021. The event started off with the raising of the Philippine flag and reading of Independence Day messages from the Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte and other government officials. There were traditional games, rondalla presentation, traditional dances from different regions and many more.
Various Filipino organizations in Brunei joined and supported the celebration in representing each region. The UST Alumni Association was tasked to represent the National Capital Region; thus, the booth was decorated in a stylized “sari-sari” store concept. There was also a street sign of Manila’s famous thoroughfare (not to forget our beloved España) and “bangko” (long bench) in front of the booth which makes for a perfect photo corner for visitors.
Tomasinos sold must-try food common in the streets of Manila, including Balut, Beef Pares, Crispy Chicken Skin, Ice Candy, Buko Pandan Drink, Abodong Mani, and the most successful of them all – Taho with arnibal and sago – exactly how it is being sold in the Philippines. It became an instant hit that people patiently queued to get their “taho” fix.
The full Sunday activity was attended not only by the Filipino community but by locals and other nationalities as well. Definitely a success, we are thankful to the Philippine Embassy in Brunei for the opportunity to participate!
Go USTe!
